At first glance, Sloppy Joe is exactly what he looks like: unwashed, chronically tired, and utterly indifferent. The fact that he walks around all day in his dirty underwear ensures that absolutely no one in town takes him seriously. He sleeps in a different bed of the local saloon girls every night, mooches off their pantries, and is considered a harmless pub regular. To General Vance, he's just scum; to Carlotta de la Cruz, a living target. And that's Joe's greatest weapon: he's invisible to everyone.

But behind the unkempt full beard and the mud-stained underwear-overall hides a razor-sharp mind. Because whenever absolute chaos erupts in El Paso, revolvers are smoking, and blood soaks into the dust, there's one person who unnoticed walks away a winner. When the smoke clears, Sloppy Joe suddenly has more dollars in his pockets than the day before. He knows everything, he sees everything, and he coldly plays the smuggling queen and the law against each other.
